Autism

Have you ever had a “gut feeling” that something was not right? Currently 1 in 59 children in the U.S. are diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders. That’s 28% of the child population and a significant increase from approximately 1 in 2,000 a generation ago. There is much research to show that developmental spectrum disorders from ADHD, PDD, Asperger’s all the way to Autism have the same root. They stem from dysfunction and toxicity in the “gut” or intestinal tract. If you’re a mom trying to help your child with behavioral/spectrum disorders, you may find answers about root causes and helpful solutions in Neurologist Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride book called Gut and Psychology Syndrome (GAPS). She recovered her own son of autism using an all-natural treatment involving dietary changes and detoxification.

Her book describes the gut/brain connection, namely brain toxicity stemming from gut toxicity, and identifies underlying root causes and environmental factors that contribute to the onset of these life-stealing disorders. In summary, children are susceptible for autism from a combination of gut dysbiosis (unhealthy gut flora) resulting in a leaky intestinal lining and subsequent nutritional deficiency coupled with increased exposure to various environmental toxins, including but not limited to:

Indiscriminate use of antibiotics: Though antibiotics can save lives in cases of severe bacterial infection, they also disrupt healthy gut flora that protects you from harmful pathogens and viruses, which can weaken your immune system in the long run.

Electromagnetic fields: Electromagnetic radiation (EMR) from cell phones, cell towers, Wi-Fi devices and other wireless technologies have increased dramatically over the past two decades and seem to coincide with the steep rise of the Autism epidemic.

Heavy metal toxicity: It is an established fact that exposure to mercury can cause immune, sensory, neurological, motor, and behavioral dysfunctions. The increase in the number of required thimerosal-containing vaccines and the use of metal dental amalgams are a significant source of these metals. Also environmental pollution has caused an increase in our food supply, particularly in fish. Likewise aluminum in the air and water from pollution, in food packaging, in personal care products and vaccine adjuvants adds to the toxic body burden. These are only two of the heavy metals that can wreak havoc on our health.

Phthalates: These chemicals are widely used plastic softeners found in vinyl flooring, hairsprays, perfumes, cosmetics, toys, shower curtains, wood finishers, lubricants, plastic storage containers, bottles and more. Researchers have suggested the chemicals may contribute to autism by disrupting hormones.

Another great resource with answers about autism is a book called Unraveling the Mystery of AUTISM and Pervasive Developmental Disorder by Karyn Seroussi. This book reveals the puzzle pieces than contribute to the accumulation of a fungal toxin commonly found in the colons of autistic children. It chronicles the steps one mother took to free her son from the mental prison of autism back to the life of a normal functioning boy.

If you are struggling to care for a child that has been touched by this malady, you don’t have to accept the situation as it is. There are things that you can do to greatly improve and in some cases even reverse the problem. Dr. Campbell-McBride and Karyn Seroussi chart a practical path to move up and out of these painful conditions. They have treated and recovered their own children and have promising, do-it-yourself advice. Many people have had verifiable improvement using their protocols.
